What Is the Second Coming?
Jesus came the first time in response to plans made from "before the creation of the world." 1 Peter 1:20 (NIV). The exact time of His appearance at His baptism and the time of His crucifixion was predicted by the prophet Daniel 600 years before it happened.

He was born in Bethlehem, He lived out His life here on earth for 33 years without sin, He died on a cross outside the walls of Jerusalem, and He ascended to His Father. While He was here, He promised His disciples He would come back again a second time.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms [mansions]; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3 (NIV).

As Jesus was ascending to heaven after the crucifixion two men in white clothing had a message for the disciples who were watching Him go. "'Men of Galilee,' they said, 'why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.'" Acts 1:11 (NIV).

At His trial before He was condemned to death, He promised His persecutors they would "see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." Matthew 26:64 (NIV).

When He comes back we "will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory." Mark 13:26 (NIV).

His coming will be a spectacular, world-shaking event. "For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man." Matthew 24:27 (NIV).

No one will miss it. "Look," John said in the book of Revelation, "He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him." Revelation 1:7 (NIV).

The wicked will be terrified. "Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, ''Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?" Revelation 6:15-17 (NIV).

At that time the righteous will "see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Luke 21:27,28 (NIV).
They will say, "This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation." Isaiah 25:9 (NIV).
